A classic single-zero wheel with a jolt added every round. One to five Lightning Numbers are struck before the ball lands, each carrying a multiplier between 50× and 500×. Here is how the table works, what each bet pays and how it fits with your VegasNow bonus and loyalty points.

A familiar wheel with one big difference

Lightning Roulette is played on a standard European wheel with a single zero: the numbers 1 to 36 plus 0. A live dealer spins the wheel and launches the ball exactly as at any roulette table, and the betting layout looks the way you would expect. If you have played roulette before, you already know how to place every bet on this table.

The difference arrives after betting closes. Before the ball settles, the game strikes between one and five numbers with lightning and attaches a random multiplier to each one, anywhere from 50× to 500×. Those struck numbers are called Lightning Numbers, and they change for every round.

If you have a straight-up bet on a Lightning Number and the ball lands there, you are paid at that number's multiplier instead of the usual straight-up price. That is the thrill of the game: the same A$1 chip that would normally win a modest amount can suddenly be worth hundreds of times your stake.

Round by round

How a round of Lightning Roulette runs

Each round takes you through the same four stages, from the open betting window to the final settlement.

  1. Place your bets

When the betting window opens, put chips on the layout as you would at any roulette table: single numbers, splits, streets, corners, dozens, columns or the even-money outside bets.

  2. Betting closes and lightning strikes

Once the window shuts, the game strikes one to five Lightning Numbers and shows each multiplier on screen. The multipliers are random and range from 50× to 500×.

  3. The ball settles

The dealer's ball lands in one pocket. That pocket is the winning number for every player at the table, whether or not it was struck by lightning.

  4. Bets are settled

Straight-up bets on a winning Lightning Number pay the multiplier. A straight-up win on any other number pays 29:1. Every other bet type pays as it would on a standard roulette table.

Payouts

What each bet pays

Only the straight-up bet changes in Lightning Roulette. All other bets keep standard roulette payouts.

Worked examples with real stakes

Numbers make the trade clearer. Suppose you place A$2 straight-up on number 17 and the ball lands on 17. If 17 was not struck that round, you win A$58 at 29:1 and keep your A$2 stake. If 17 was struck with a 300× multiplier, the same chip wins A$600. If it carried the maximum 500×, it wins A$1,000.

Now suppose you place A$2 on red instead and the ball lands on a red number. You win A$2, exactly as on any roulette table, and it makes no difference whether that number was struck by lightning. If the ball lands on 0, every outside bet loses, including red and black.

Many players combine the two approaches. A spread of A$1 on each of five favourite numbers costs A$5 a round. When one of those numbers wins without lightning you collect A$29 and lose the other four chips, for a net round result of A$25. When a winning number is struck at 100×, that chip wins A$100 and the round finishes A$96 ahead. Most rounds, of course, none of your five numbers will come up, so plan your budget around the losing rounds rather than the winning ones.

Approach

Inside or outside: two ways to play the same wheel

Your choice of bets decides how a Lightning Roulette session feels far more than any system does. With 37 pockets on the wheel, a single number has a 1 in 37 chance of winning on any spin.

⚡

Chasing the lightning

Straight-up bets are the only way to collect a multiplier, so players who come for the lightning concentrate on single numbers. Expect long runs where nothing lands, broken by occasional wins that can be large. Keep stakes per number small so a quiet stretch does not empty your session budget.

🎯

Steady outside play

Red or black, odd or even and the dozens win far more often but never receive a multiplier. Sessions built on outside bets swing less, which suits players who enjoy the live atmosphere more than the chase. Remember that 0 still beats every outside bet.

🧩

A mixed layout

Some players put most of a round's stake on an outside bet and a small amount on a few single numbers. The outside bet keeps the balance moving while the straight-ups give a chance at a struck number. Just keep the round total inside your plan and inside A$8 if a bonus is active.

📋

No system beats the wheel

Patterns in recent results, doubling after a loss and similar systems do not change the odds of the next spin. Every spin starts fresh with no memory of the last, and the Lightning Numbers are chosen at random. Choose an approach you enjoy and stake what you can afford.

Bonus play

Lightning Roulette, bonuses and loyalty

Roulette counts at 25% towards bonus wagering and earns 1 loyalty point for every A$100 wagered. Here is what that means in practice.

Loyalty

Turning roulette play into Loyalty Store points

Every real-money roulette bet earns loyalty points at 1 point per A$100 wagered. Points count towards your loyalty level and can be exchanged in the Loyalty Store, starting at 200 points for a A$5 bonus at Golden Glimmer level. Higher levels receive better exchange rates.

As an illustration, A$24,000 of roulette stakes earns 240 points, which is enough for one A$5 exchange at the entry level with points left over. Bonuses from exchanged points carry 40× wagering like other bonuses. The full programme and its seven levels are explained on our VIP and loyalty page.

Other roulette tables in our lobby

Lightning Roulette is the best-known roulette title in our live casino, but it is not the only one. XXXTreme Lightning Roulette is also in the lobby, as is Fortune Roulette from Pragmatic Play Live, and there are classic roulette tables for players who want the wheel without any extra features. Each table carries its own help panel with rules and payouts, and those rules apply to that table only.

If you prefer the reels, the pokies section includes titles such as Gates of Olympus, whose multiplier symbols work in a completely different way from lightning strikes. For a different kind of live multiplier, try Crazy Time, where a Top Slot can boost one bet spot by up to 50×.

Evolution publishes the rules for Lightning Roulette on its Lightning Roulette game page. We do not quote an RTP figure for the table because none is stated on that page; any RTP is in any case a long-run average and not a guide to one session.

Playing within your limits

Lightning Roulette rounds are short and the big multipliers are memorable, which can make it tempting to keep going. Decide your budget before the first spin, set a deposit limit in your VegasNow account and stop when that budget is used. Never increase stakes to win back a loss.

A simple routine helps. Before you open the table, check whether a bonus is active on your balance, because that decides whether the A$8 maximum bet applies. Pick a stake per round that lets your budget last for the length of session you want; A$100 at A$5 a round gives you about twenty rounds of play before any wins are counted. Decide in advance what you will do with a big multiplier win, such as withdrawing part of it, so the decision is not made in the excitement of the moment.

Lightning Roulette questions

How many Lightning Numbers are there each round?

Between one and five. They are chosen at random after betting closes and change every round.

How big are the multipliers?

Each Lightning Number carries a random multiplier from 50× to 500×. It applies only to straight-up bets on that number.

Why does a straight-up bet pay 29:1?

The usual 35:1 is reduced to 29:1 on numbers that are not struck. That difference is what pays for the multipliers on struck numbers.

Do outside bets get multipliers?

No. Red or black, odd or even, high or low, dozens and columns pay standard roulette odds whether or not a winning number was struck.

What wheel does Lightning Roulette use?

A European single-zero wheel with numbers 1 to 36 plus 0.

How does Lightning Roulette count for bonus wagering?

Roulette counts at 25%, so A$100 of stakes moves your wagering by A$25. The A$8 maximum bet applies while a bonus is active.

Can I play it on mobile?

Yes. The table opens in your phone browser with no download. Our mobile page shows how to save VegasNow to your Home Screen.
