Book of Ra at VegasNow: the original, deluxe and Magic
Five reels, ten lines and an explorer hunting through a tomb. Book of Ra is one of the oldest ideas on our slots shelf and still one of the most searched. We carry three versions. This page explains what they share, where they differ, how each counts toward a bonus and how to plan a session around a game Novomatic rates at the top of its volatility scale.
- 5 × 10 reels and lines (deluxe, Magic)
- 5 volatility on Novomatic's scale
- 3 versions in our lobby

How Book of Ra plays
Book of Ra is a line slot in the traditional sense. Symbols land on five reels and wins are paid along fixed paylines, left to right. Book of Ra deluxe and Book of Ra Magic both use ten lines. There is no grid that tumbles and no cluster counting. You set a stake, spin, and read the result across the lines. That simplicity is a large part of why the game has lasted.
The symbol that gives the series its name is the Book. In the classic design it plays two roles at once: it is the wild, standing in for other symbols to complete a line, and it is the scatter, which pays wherever it lands and opens the free games round. One symbol doing both jobs is the core of the Book of Ra idea, and later "book" slots from many studios borrowed it.
The free games round is where the series is built to pay. Its signature is the expanding symbol: a symbol chosen for the feature that can spread to fill whole reels when it lands, which can turn a modest screen into a line-filling result. The details of how the symbol is chosen and how many free games are awarded differ between versions, so read the pay table for the one you open.
Novomatic publishes volatility on its own scale, and Book of Ra deluxe and Book of Ra Magic are both rated 5. In practice that means long quiet stretches are normal and much of the value is concentrated in the feature. Specifications for deluxe are listed on Novomatic's Book of Ra deluxe page.
Book of Ra, Book of Ra deluxe and Book of Ra Magic compared
All three are in the VegasNow lobby. They look alike at a glance, but the feature rules differ, so it is worth knowing which one you are opening.

Novomatic does not state an RTP for these titles on its product pages, so we do not quote one. The in-game information panel is the place to check the figures for the build you are playing.
Book of Ra Magic: what changes in the feature
Book of Ra Magic keeps the five reels and ten lines but rebuilds the free games round. It awards 10 free games, and instead of relying on a single expanding symbol, it can bring in up to nine randomly selected special expanding symbols. More expanding symbols means more ways for one free game to fill lines across the screen.
That does not make the game gentler. It still sits at 5 on Novomatic's volatility scale, the same as deluxe. Expect the base game to be quiet for long stretches and the feature to carry most of the weight when it does arrive.
If you like the original's rhythm but want a feature with more moving parts, Magic is the version to try. If you prefer the cleanest form of the idea, the classic and deluxe versions are closer to what most players remember.
How Book of Ra counts toward 40× wagering
Every Book of Ra version is a slot, so it contributes 100% under our general bonus terms. That is four times the rate of roulette and ten times the rate of blackjack.
| Game type | Contribution | A$600 staked counts as |
|---|---|---|
| Slots, including all Book of Ra versions | 100% (exceptions apply) | A$600 |
| Roulette | 25% | A$150 |
| Blackjack and game shows | 10% | A$60 |
| Baccarat | 0% | A$0 |
High volatility, the A$8 ceiling and a 7-day window
A volatility-5 slot and a time-limited bonus need a plan. With much of the game's value sitting in the free games round, a bonus balance can shrink for a while before the feature lands. The fix is not a bigger stake. It is a stake small enough that the balance can survive a long base-game stretch.
Using the VEGAS3 example: a A$300 deposit plus a A$150 bonus is A$450 to play with. At A$1 a spin, that is 450 spins of runway. At A$3, it is 150 spins, which on a game this volatile is not many. The A$8 ceiling is a hard limit, not a suggestion; going over it with a bonus active breaks the terms.
The welcome free spins have their own conditions: 40× wagering on their winnings, 1× deposit wagering before the free-spin part is released, and a A$300 cap on welcome free-spin winnings. The game they are credited on is shown on the offer in your account. All four stages and codes are laid out on our welcome bonus page, and you can decline any bonus and play with cash only if you prefer.
Reloads and free spins after the welcome stages
The welcome package is not the only way to play Book of Ra with extra funds. Every Tuesday, Lucky 7s Load Up adds a 77% match up to A$77 to each qualifying deposit, and you can repeat it as often as you like that day using the code on the offer. Every Friday, Friday Night Spotlight gives 40 free spins per qualifying deposit on a featured game that changes from week to week, so the offer tells you which slot the spins belong to.
Other weekly reloads usually match 25%, 50% or 100%. Their caps and wagering are set out on each offer inside your account rather than published in full. Because only one bonus can run at a time, finish or decline the current one before claiming the next. The complete schedule is on our weekly promotions page.
What Book of Ra play earns
Real-money slot wagering earns 1 redeemable point and 1 status point per A$25, the fastest earn rate of any game type at VegasNow.
| Real-money wagering | On slots (1 per A$25) | On roulette (1 per A$100) | On blackjack or baccarat (1 per A$250) |
|---|---|---|---|
| A$250 | 10 points | 2 points | 1 point |
| A$1,000 | 40 points | 10 points | 4 points |
| A$5,000 | 200 points | 50 points | 20 points |
At Golden Glimmer, the starting level, 200 points exchange for a A$5 bonus, and the published example lets you save 2,000 points for A$60. Higher levels get better rates, and exchanged bonuses carry 40× wagering. See our VIP and loyalty page or the loyalty programme rules.

Setting a budget for a volatility-5 game
On a slot rated at the top of its studio's volatility scale, the budget decides the session. Pick the amount first, then the stake. A simple rule: aim for at least 200 spins. A$100 at 50 cents gives you 200 spins; A$100 at A$2 gives you 50, which is a very short evening on a game that keeps its value in the feature.
Set a deposit limit in your account before you start, and decide your stop points both ways. Session reminders, cooling-off and self-exclusion are also available, and our responsible gambling page explains each one.
